The NYCC to remember Dinu Ghezzo in February 5 concert

Dinu Ghezzo

On February 5, 2015, the New York Composers Circle will present its next concert, a concert in memory of Dinu Ghezzo, who passed away in December. Dinu was an honorary member of the NYCC, but also a friend and advisor.

Executive Director Emeritus John de Clef Piñeiro recently wrote:

Artist, mentor, teacher, muse, impresario, and irrepressible hugger, Dinu was a phenomenon in our lives! If anyone stands out for us as a vivacious embracing human being it is certainly Dinu. In fact, I think I learned to hug from Dinu. If you are going to do it, do it with gusto and “ganas,” do it as if it is the most important thing in that moment. Don’t crush, but leave an impression, nonetheless.

And an impression of one who embraces is what he has left most clearly as his living signature in the hearts of each of those he loved and cared about, which includes just about everyone who ever met him.

His music was also an embrace and embodied emotion, intelligence and elegance in an idiom that remains timeless and refreshing.

Who among us can doubt for a moment that what we saw and felt in Dinu was the engaging effusiveness of life itself? And we can all acknowledge without hesitation that his spirit was a veritable torrent of nature, making us aware that, yes, this is, HE IS joie de vivre (the joy of life) incarnate.

We learn from each other, we leave our mark, we open doors for those who have no keys, we welcome others in their potential and help them get closer to their fulfillment. In these various ways our man Dinu, who encouraged all of us, conducted us like a choral master so that each of us could know what it means to play our part.
